Fatness and Fat Acceptance in the African American Community (Talk “Fat” Session 3)

  • 92Y 1395 Lexington Ave New York, NY 10128 (map)

Come out and hear me contribute my expertise on mental health and behavioral strategies related to weight management and bariatric surgery to a panel about fat acceptance in Black communities. The panel will include myself along with Dr. Sharrell D. Luckettt and Latoya Shauntay Snell.

Talk “FAT” Sessions are events where all things “fat” are discussed from a range of different perspectives and experiences. Fat bodies and struggles with size and identity are centered in these exciting conversations.

Does the African American community suffer less from weight discrimination? Are full figured and voluptuous bodies more desirable and acceptable?

Join me, actress and author Sharrell D. Luckett (YoungGiftedandFat), and HOKA ONE ONE athlete, Latoya Shauntay Snell, as they tackle the myths around fatness and fat acceptance in the African American community and discuss self-care initiatives that promote healthy minds and bodies.
